OUR WHY
A message from our founder and current President Alyx Jarrell.
To the most inspiring little boy, and the fuel to my fire, Cowboy Mack (Allister Kitchell). He was the bravest of brave brain cancer warrior who lost his battle and gained his angel wings on January 27, 2013. Allister taught me all about hard work and determination, despite the things in life you may be facing. I will never forget the first day I met Allister and his family. I witnessed a strong family unit, who were joyful and thankful for the little moments in life. This taught me that those little moments will one day be the things we look back on and mean the most to us. Allister shined bright, and he was a light to everyone he met. This is one of the many reasons we chose not to confine our mission to a specific disease or community need, but blanket a wide array of needs. Allister was able to reach out and touch the lives of all of those who he encountered. He was never afraid of anything he was facing, and even at the end of his days, he praised and shared with others all about Jesus. One of his wishes was that he wanted everyone to help children and their families who were also battling this monstrous disease. I spent the last ten years serving with Colors for a Cause and helping other families battling cancer in his honor. I started out as a 14 year old little girl… placing mason jars in gas stations and local businesses to raise money for this special little boy I met. I Always wanted to be able to do something more, to find a way to continue to touch lives and bring the same type of joy he brought to all he met. 11 years later, Mack's Mission was born. One of Allister's most favorite moments spent at St. Jude's was working with the therapy dogs. The comfort and joy the dogs were able to bring to him and his family were one of the only things that got them through their hospital stays and visits. When I made the decision to train our dog Mack for therapy work, I knew the task would not be easy. There are many factors we will face during this process. Many times I questioned if this was the right path or decision. Every time I had a doubt, a glimmer of reason would hit us. We should have brought Mack home in July, 2022. Our expected litter fell through and that moved our timeline to Christmas time. What I initially saw as a setback, quickly turned into a sign from Allister. Christmas was his favorite time of the year, and what a wonderful gift and personal touch from him that we brought Mack home just in time to celebrate Christmas. We also received official approval for Mack's Mission Organization on Allister's birthday of all days! I knew this journey was laid on my heart for a reason, and I knew I had to do it for Cowboy Mack. Here's to a great adventure sweet cowboy… we hope to make you proud. Allister, this one's for you! These families and these communities will forever feel your touch and willingness to help others through YOUR mission… Mack’s Mission. The heartbeat of a strong willed little boy lives within each of our members and donors. THANK YOU for continuing his efforts with us and being a part of Mack’s Mission, and most importantly, keep Allister’s memory and legacy alive, one family at a time.
Special thank you to Allister's mom Brandi and family. You will never know what it means to me to take on the task of honoring your baby boy! Thank you for your love and support. You all became our family from the second we met. My life will never be the same all thanks to your family and angel, Allister. I will forever be thankful for all you have taught me in this life and helping me find my purpose. Thank you is simply not enough. I hope our team will make you proud!

FUND- Through donations and money raised from fundraising events and sponsors, we are able to provide special funding through a thorough application process for critically ill patients in Louisiana and Texas to help ease their financial burden that comes with having to take time off to focus on fighting for their lives. Monetary value will be dependent upon organization funds and case by case basis. Bills don’t stop when tragedy hits. We help keep the lights on by taking up a late light bill payment, keep communication lines open by paying a late phone bill, the water running by paying this month's water bill, put gas in their car to get them to and from doctors visits, insurance payments, medical bills, and more. Wherever the financial need, we do our best to help ease the burden of everyday expenses for those fighting for their lives. In addition to this, special fundraising efforts are set to go towards community projects throughout the community, these will vary depending on the specific needs!
HEAL- We provide therapy dog services to those in need in the community in Louisiana and Texas. Whether it be our critically ill families needing an extra smile, special facilities within the community such as nursing homes, hospitals, medical facilities, community centers, orphanages, rehabilitation centers, or educational events for schools, businesses, workspaces, and much more. We at Mack’s Mission believe in the power of four legged therapy for all. The benefits and the smiles our teams can bring to the community are a crucial part of our mission.
PROVIDE- Our Back to the Basics program helps provide communities and those in need with basic necessities such as clothing, food, personal hygiene items, and more through donations and distribution. Whether our critically ill families, special facilities, or specific families going through hardship in the community, this special donation program will help provide a basic sense of dignity to those needing help getting back on their feet.
